Sisters Corita Ambro, CSJ and Wilma Apack, CSJ recognized by City of Cleveland

Two local Congregation of St. Joseph sisters, Corita Ambro, CSJ, and Wilma Apack, CSJ, were recognized recently by the
Cleveland Department of Aging at their annual Senior Day, held at the Cleveland Convention Center on May 21, 2009.

Sister Corita, known as the "Mother Teresa of Tremont", was recognized for her almost 40 years ministering to the poor, hungry, lonely, and broken at St. Augustine Parish in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. She began her ministry there in 1970 working with the deaf community, but later changed positions to an all-encompassing Coordinator of Programs title, where she began the Hunger Center. Since then, she has served two meals a day to the city's poor. Sister Corita was nominated for this recognition by Ward 13 Councilman, Joe Cimperman.

Sister WIlma Apack, CSJ was recognized for her work as a Pastoral Minister, which she began in 1976 at Epiphany Parish in Cleveland, and later at St. Philip Neri, where she worked from 1980 - 2002. In 2002, Sister Wilma became a Pastoral Associate at St. Colman Parish, where she was instrumental in the merging of the Parish School of Religion of La Sagrada Familia with St. Colman's in 2008. Sister Wilma was nominated for this recognition by Ward 17 Councilman, Matt Zone.
