St. Joseph Worker Program Secures First House

The St. Joseph Worker Program sponsored by the Congregation of St. Joseph is delighted to announce that a house has been located that will serve as the residence for the first class of St. Joseph Workers. (see related story)

The house, known as the St. Julian Eymard Rectory, is located in a diverse neighborhood of New Orleans and is close to the ministries in which the women will be working. The house is shaped in a square with a courtyard in the middle. A park is located on one side of the house and a school on the other. Beautiful trees with Spanish moss are located around the property. There is even a statue of St. Joseph, dedicated March 19, 2000, in the front yard. The sign on it reads:  "Joseph, hold us as you hold Jesus." How welcome we feel!

The house has 5 bedrooms and 4 full baths, plus half baths for visitors. The program has been blessed with 2 donated cars for the Workers, so they will be able to carpool over the bridge to their respective jobs. We are extremely grateful for the generous donations of furniture, linens, etc that we have received from the Kleinert sisters and other sisters who are moving. We are also particularly grateful to Ily Fernandez and Pat Sullivan for their ongoing work.

The four women chosen as the first class of St. Joseph Workers are set to move in on July 31.
